Takagaki taught judo at Nippon University,Nippon Dental University, the Diet (Parliament) guard school, and at various middle schools. He also became an official on the Committee at Kodokan. In 1929 Rabindranath Tagore of India sent a request to Kodokan for a judo instructor for Santiniketan University. Mr. Takagaki was sent in response to this request and taught judo in India for two years. During that time he prepared the text of this book, which after many revisions has become the present manual.
